Karaguna

Notes:

The melody for this track is a traditional Greek song, "Karaguna".

Most of the instruments used in this piece were originally recorded in a single session in Oakland, CA by Hyim Ross. There was a rough mix from the day they recorded it that Derek carried around for years, as the example of the kind of music he wanted to make. But, since he's now finally releasing this album, the piece is at last seeing the light of day. Since they were already mic'ed up and in the studio and had been working with the piece as part of their trio with Robert Kyle, Derek got Javad to lay the tabla tracks at a session in Tarzana, CA on 2014-05-02 engineered by Hussain Jiffry.

This song is part of the soundtrack for Not Without Us, an important documentary film about climate change and the people-power it's going to take to do something positive about it. The world-premiere is 2016-04-20 at the SF Green Film Festival.
